The Return of Carnack the Magnificent

If you’re of an age, you’ll remember when the “Tonite Show starring Johnny Carson” was genuinely funny.

Ahh, those late nights, the guests, the laughs along with Doc Severin and the Tonight Show Band…and those special shows when Ed McMahon would announce a surprise visit from “that mystic from the East, the great seer, soothsayer, and sage, who will divine the answers to the questions in these sealed envelopes I hold in my hand, previously hidden in an abandoned refrigerator in a Burbank landfill, please welcome Carnac the Magnificent.”

Hilarity ensued.

In our imaginary skit today, Carnac, envelope to the turban, would intone:

“Mis, Dis and Non”

And Carnac would answer:

“Name 3 types of information.”

Of course, many of us are all too familiar with the MSM’s daily servings of Misinformation and Disinformation across all platforms: broadcast, cable, print, and the Internet.

Thanks to the popularity and influence of Alt. Media - X, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Rumble, Parlar, etc., Non-information is beginning to receive the attention usually reserved for its more sinister cousins, Mis and Dis.

Having been caught repeatedly in the commission of outright lies and agenda-driven “censorship” of salient facts and voices, the “Legacy Media” has to resort to other “reporting” techniques to maintain the appearance of “journalism” and not be outflanked and debunked by its younger competitors.

OK - How many names have you seen reported by the “Legacy Media”? More than 2 gets a prize.

For the uninitiated, selective MSM coverage is always predicated on their preferred narrative. When events are too sensational to avoid their “news”, basic parsing of their ‘reporting’ will reveal the bias and prejudice systemic in the press. In fairness, when local coverage supersedes networks and wire services, objective reporting might be found. But don’t count on it. Every one of those smaller market blow-dried “reporters” are auditioning for the Major Market/Network gig. Demonstrating intelligent coverage of a lost dog won’t cut it; tear in the beer gets a second look at Corporate.

Overall, however, it is stories like those cited above that are consistently ignored by the MSM because the facts contradict that preferred narrative. They don’t want you to know the evil that men and governments do. It doesn’t serve their purpose or the dictates of their corporate owners. “You don’t know what you don’t know” is fine with them; they encourage it. It bolsters their superiority over us American Gothic rubes. As Arbitrators of the News, they mold national opinions, influence political agendas, and keep the audience tethered to hifalutin vision. The result is a country drowning in ignorance, blithely unaware of the growing injustice against them inflicted by a maligned government originally established to protect citizens’ rights with authority “from the consent of the governed”.

The daily news is reduced to redundant “headlines” with cleverly seeded “stories” that tell us more and more about less and less. Eventually, we will know everything about nothing.

If only Carnac the Magnificent had divined Alt. Media would change all that, removing the Mis, Dis, and Non and leaving just The News.

But, like Journalistic Principles, Carnac was sarcastically funny and totally make-believe.
