In Memoriam
Today marks the sad anniversary discovery of the body of my close personal and professional friend, Denver radio legend, Steven B. Williams, his body floating off the coast of Santa Catalina Island, 17 years ago. He had been murdered by Harvey Morrow. Rather than those grisly and tragic details, what’s more important are the memories of the knee-slapping, laugh-out-loud radio shows he performed for Denver audiences as the big voice of ‘Steve B and the Hawk’. How a late-nite phone call in 1986 led to an invaluable 20-year friendship is for another time. One of my best memories was doing a couple of weekend shows together on KXKL in 1988. I happened to be in town; Steven happened to be on the air and – Magic Happened. Over the years, Steven stayed with us for a time in NYC. Later, we and a small group of friends ran amuck among the wineries in Napa Valley where we all shared a love for the California grape. Good times, the best of times with one of the kindest, most talented souls to grace the radio business. I miss my friend, Stephen. And while I don’t share the belief in a burning hell of eternal torment, should it exist may Harvey Morrow discover it asap.
