My father, a very accomplished sales-engineer told me the reason for his success was by following the adage “Sell the sizzle, not the steak.”
Politicians are the best salespeople in the world. They learn what you want, promise they’ll get it for you and how happy you will be when they do! All it takes is your Vote! Some money helps, too.
So you do! But they don’t. “Buyer’s Remorse” sets in. Then two, four, six years later, it’s ‘Rinse – Repeat’.
This is the pattern Charles Shultz tapped into when he developed the popular Lucy and Charlie Brown “Football” cartoon strips.
Alas. In the allegory, Lucy plays the Politicians and Charlie is us. The Football is all things promised, then snatched away at the last second with the usual CYA excuses
In just a few weeks, we’ll be living the newest strip.
We’ve been sold the sizzle of promises: Peace, Prosperity, MAGA! by enacting Trump’s ‘football’; all the things we’ve wanted – and not wanted – from Government. No need to list them again. We know them from the news, rallies, debates, ads and mountain of articles - like this one. We.Got.It.
But will Team Lucy (Trump and the Republicans) hold those Football Promises for us Charlies to see them split the legislative uprights?
That’s a tough one…
Recent events indicate Republicans are once again preparing to “pass up an opportunity to pass up an opportunity”. They’re so famous for that, it should be the GOP motto. The “small 5 seat Republican majority in the House” would be “an insurmountable 5 seat Democrat stone wall …” had the votes gone the other way.
Less publicized due to all the Holiday News, Elon and Vivek’s Christmas comments on X regarding immigration and employment lit another fuse that has plenty of explosive potential for Trump’s plans. The arguments over this will have all of the Good, Bad and Ugly contending; the Morons and Race Baiters are already warming up.
For all the cockeyed optimists you know who are anticipating the arrival of Paradise America no later than 2P ET, January 20th, reviewing those Charlie Brown ‘Football’ comics would help add a healthy dose of political reality to the Trump administration’s gumbo of promises.
May your New Year be as Happy as Hoped for…

I can't imagine Trump 2.0 being much different than round one, with luck we can skip another scamdemic and "peaceful protests". I suppose it's less likely they will impeach him again, but I doubt it will mean that Trump gets more done or that what he gets done will help anything.
If he could find a way to get his regulation cuts permanent this time that would be great. Sadly it's more than I expect but I do hold out some small hope on that front and by small I mean maybe a 20% chance that he will be able to get some regulatory reform made permanent.
Spending cuts, regulatory reform and a sane foreign policy would go a long way towards fixing this country. I doubt the blob will allow much to change significantly on any of these fronts.
I don't trust Elon, he's taken too much money from taxpayers for me to trust him, but he's right about the work visa's. We want "Brain Drain" to work to our advantage, not to the advantage of everyone else.
"Give me your hardest working, your rich, your educated masses yearning to breath free, the successful and brilliant from your teeming shore. Send these, the highly motivated, to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"
In the real world, Lucy becomes the never-married spinster.
