WHAT? "GOOD News"!?
Don't read standing up or operating heavy machinery
“Good News” is scarce these days. When you do find it, too often, it turns out to be some head fake, deep fake or troll scamming, looking for “Likes”.
Thanks to my genetic disposition for Sarcasm, Satire, and Irony, the ones I appreciate often come with a built-in Cognitive Dissonance asterisk. Like this:
Finally! Some Good News!
Public Trust In US Government Nears Historic Lows
Sharing this on another site, the blowback was anticipated; critical thinkers are rare these days, but their absence provides opportunities to expand the thought and, possibly, reveal a small, shiny part of Reality that went unnoticed.
All Governments, regardless of -ism, have an ugly, deadly history. The staggering number of people killed, families destroyed, property ruined, businesses and careers eradicated, resources squandered, countless, indescribable, and incalculable tragedies throughout history – all attributable to the greatest unnatural disaster inflicted by mankind on mankind: Government. Nothing good has ever come from Government without this indelible stain; George Washington agrees.
As Public Trust plunges to a new low, let’s hope it is because our fellow citizens are waking up to a reality that has eluded them since forever. I suspect that, at one time, everyone reading this (including me) believed the Government was run by Good Guys doing good things for America and us. At some traumatic point of experience, the glow wore off, but the stench of power, fraud, waste, and politics has yet get past Mass Formation Stagnation (i.e., unmotivated citizens). Remember the frog, pot, boiling water…
These last few dung heaps of ‘current events’ may have begun to alert the Joe and Jane Sixpacks suffering Aggressive Ignorance in Flyover Country, that the Cavalry isn’t coming to save them. Or us. We are our own Cavalry. Current Senate and House “hearings” have ripped the curtain off the sordid clown show starring our “Elected Officials”. Elected Buffoons, Criminals, Self-Aggrandizing Psychopaths, and Narcissists would be more accurate. “Keeping our citizens safe!” is a Congressional punch line.
Sidebar: If I ever “go missing” in AZ, please do everything you can to prevent Sheriff Chris Nanos from leading the investigation. Instead, see if Chief Inspector, Jacques Clouseau can be resurrected…
About Guthrie again…
Substacker Sasha Stone posted one of the Nancy Guthrie pieces making the rounds. A talented scribbler, this one I found unfortunately stereotypical, loaded with ‘Women Only’ stuff, the maternal magnet of soap operas and similar tragedies.
To prove a point, I posted:
No one wishes Missing Guthrie anything but a swift, healthy return. However…
As a MSM veteran, the media’s obsession (FOX in particular) raises significant issues lost in the tears and tissues of this drama. Objectively, she is one person whose welfare affects her family and friends. Period. Without the stupendously unprofessional media blather of irrelevant (non) information, her predicament would be unknown and of no national consequence – just as with all the others who disappear, tragically, unmourned, without the emotional tsunami of media hyperventilation.
What should be of greater concern are events that can affect the greater viewing audience, if only they were reported. Example: A CCP-connected bio lab was recently discovered in a Las Vegas suburb. Inside, over 1,000 vials of possibly deadly viruses, currently being tested. This is the second of such labs operating in the US, the first was discovered in a similar subdivision in CA. The story received a one-time C-block mention on some platforms. Considering the consequences to millions, FOX et al would have been fulfilling their “news” mandate with some serious coverage, rather than debating the foliage surrounding Ms Guthrie’s house that could have prevented Ring cameras from…etc.
Unreported news of great personal impact doesn’t have the addictive emotional tug of a missing grandmother. But for the serious news consumer, the possible consequences of a bio leak that could result in unimaginable devastation, how it came to be here, whose fingerprints are on its very existence in an American suburb, should put the unbalanced Guthrie coverage in perspective.
The following response hasn’t changed:
BBS replied to your comment on The Story That United A Divided America.
The fact that I am the first person to “heart” your comment says it all. I wish more people would pay attention.
Thanks. Emotional addiction constructs an unbreakable wall. Kudos to those who simply moved on without dropping an ad hominem or two.
Thx again
Point made.
And this…
Recently, the FBI announced it was doubling the reward ($100,000) in the Guthrie case. Pardon Cold-Hearted Me, but….that’s my money. And yours. And the person next to you who pays taxes. Simply put: regardless of allocation, the government’s money comes from taxpayers (tariffs and other toys notwithstanding; it’s fungible). How about establishing a GoFundMe page? All the teary suburban housewives caught up in the Guthrie Drama can tap their Cookie Jars and Piggy Banks and raise even more money. I want my extorted tax bux spent on something important to me. (See “guns” below.)
In other news...
Of course, it’s another school shooting…in Canada! But wait! MSM silence!? Do tragedies that happen in Canada stay in Canada?
Jenna McCarthy (Jennaside Rocks/Substack) covers the tragedy with her straight-edge razor keyboard:
“Within minutes of the rampage, alerts went out describing the suspect as a “female in a dress.” The minute I saw that, I knew.
I mean, have you ever—even once—seen an alleged perpetrator described as a “male in pants” or a “female wearing shoes?” Of course not! It’s “armed female” or “adult male” or, if the subject is still on the loose, maybe “a white male in a neon green hoodie and purple parachute pants.” But never-not-ever is it “a human in human clothing.” They only threw the dress part in there to avoid stating a politically inconvenient fact, upsetting advertisers, or toppling their own carefully constructed narrative.
By the time officials reached the podium to deliver a press briefing, the description had morphed into “a gunperson.” A gunperson. As if the word “shooter” was insufficiently inclusive or somehow accidentally implied gender? The press spent more time agonizing over culturally sanitized euphemisms than reporting the actual details of the crime.”
Enjoy the rest here: Gunperson absurdity.”
Did someone say “guns”?
The ‘good news’ here is that the skullduggery was discovered. Now it’s up to the steel-belted Republicans (stop laughing) to do something about it – like maybe hitting the Congressional “Delete” key…
(BTW - J.D. Tuccille, The Rattler (Reason e-zine) is a good read.)
Several weeks ago, I purchased one of those ‘bananas’ you see on TV. I’ll have a brief report on its performance and a look at the “less lethal” concept and mindset soon.
Finally, an apology to all who received a Substack notice the other day that “Brian Wilson Writes” was “going Live” at x o’clock!” Obviously, that didn’t happen, neither did “going Dead!”, but it did blow the cover on plans to start a “Live” podcast before New Year’s. Experimenting with new software programs, some Fat Finger hit an exposed Send button – and the rest is embarrassing history. OTOH - now you know what stomach-churning plans are in the works! Stay tuned for wacky action!
And thanks for reading this far. Enjoy the weekend, regardless of your weather, politics, or the absence of college football…

This is my favorite Inspector Clouseau skit:

Great essay. FFS, the missing Guthrie's daughter makes a fortune as an NBC TV host. The Guthries have plenty of money.
It's a crazy world.
I read an article today about Ted Kaczinski, the Unabomber. Turns out that he was psychologically tortured as a teenager at Harvard in an experiment at Harvard sponsored by the government. Ted carried around that published psychology study all his life. The 37 well-worn pages of the study were found by the FBI in Ted's cabin.
Ted's first bomb went to that psychologist who tortured him as a teen. The FBI looked for Ted for thirty years before finding him due to his younger brother's wife. David, the younger brother, trusted the FBI (always a mistake). David asked that his mother not find out about Ted's capture on the news and that Ted not get the death penalty. The FBI broke both promises.
Never trust the FBI. It's an interesting read. A friend sent me the story, and I can't access the link.
The government is the enemy.
"Public Trust In US Government Nears Historic Lows" I don't know how to say this without seemingly insulting your post which was superb but this made me laugh. I don't understand how there was ever any trust in us government. I had trust (not total) at eighteen but whatever trust I had is gone. I read war is a racket not long after eighteen and then in the last twenty years became aware of the small hat question. I started noticing.
