The US Constitution doesn't give us rights; it keeps the government from taking away our God-given rights.
If the State gave a damn about saving children, why is there more security at airports than at schools?
Why did the State force children to wear masks, get injections, and keep them out of school for two years?
The State is Janus, the two-faced Roman god. January is named after the bugger. Perhaps that is why Congress and the President are signed into office in January.
Frank, LOL! My Scottish friend wrote me today that Earth's atmosphere will run out of CO2 in 200,000 years. I don't know how anyone can predict that. Fungi decomposing trees and cellulose solved the first CO2 crisis millennia ago. The biggest CO2 dump is calcium carbonate. Making concrete out of limestone may save the Earth, yet. Some say we need more sand.
> All of this raises the question: now that President Trump is returning to office next month, do Democrats still want to give elected politicians control over constitutional rights?
I wonder if they're so confident because they're all in the same small club (or, at least they think they are) and won't suffer the way the peasants will.
Also, has any infringement on natural human rights "to save even one child" ever actually saved any children? Is there evidence of this, or is it merely wishful guessing?
All legislation/programs ("No Child Left Behind" etc) have actually benefitted any youngster more than the unions, politicians, and expanded government.
It's always the same BS, let no perfectly good tragedy go to waste and turn over no stones looking for the actual cause, not when your pet cause can be blamed.
My personal favorite, having a bit of a background in psychology, is how they claim gun laws are the answer, while ignoring the effects of psychotropic drugs on children's mental health issues. If it's "for the children" why aren't they a bit more worried about why these kids are almost all on drugs with side effects that include homicidal and suicidal thoughts?
Why have we expanded the definition of disorders like Autism, ADHD and other anxiety disorders to the point where millions of young people are now being prescribed heavy duty drugs to treat relatively benign symptoms? Everyone is now "on the spectrum" and a ton of them get "medicated" for it. And if you aren't on the spectrum you are depressed or anxious about something right? Ok, well have a handful of SSRI's, that should help.
How many times are these young people just trying to get disability payments so they fake symptoms but get prescribed very real drugs? Every single day is the answer and on-line groups are out there to help them do it, by letting them know what kinds of symptoms they need to show to get disability payments or to get themselves put into the care of the state, where they can get money to live independently once they turn sixteen. These on-line sites are also a breeding ground for predators who prey on disturbed kids.
Suicidal thoughts will almost always lead to a diagnosis of a Severe Disorder anything short of that might not. This pushed kids into feigning more and more serious problems, which gets them prescribed heavier drugs.
I don't think I'm going out on a limb to say that it's likely the influence of big pharma and their hold on the networks, that explains why it's not a headline every time there is a shooting, rather than the guns.
Little doubt that if gun companies were spending billions on adds, they would get better press.
From a slightly different perspective, I wrote a piece for LRC "The Other Newtown Victims" (12/12) tying in the MSM's profound disinterest in the contents of the shooters' medicine cabinets, the constant focus on "gun control" and Big Pharma's buyout of available commercial time on their 'Evening News". Nothing's changed. Parents and teachers remain oblivious to the side effects that quickly scroll across the bottom of the adverts.
It would be interesting to see the predictable response from ABCCBSNBC for a Buy from the company that owns Colt, Winchester, Sig - similar to the FB Censors pictures with "that promotes death and violence". Then counter with a well-publicized headline "What do you think Drugs do?"
once Americans are disarmed and only government and criminals are armed, the slippery slope argument goes away. The people who did the disarming are in charge and rule of law won't apply to them. Pretty much the same as now only much worse. In addition, not that this matters, but I was in law enforcement until I quit because I wasn't impressed with having a gun, badge and the power of the state. Or the pension. Of course when relating this, I am accused of doing something wrong. No, I quit after getting off probation. Later I was around law enforcement in the ARNG. We had big city police, county deputies, ATF and assorted others. Sometimes they would talk and laugh. We would listen. We wouldn't laugh.
There is a mentality. Not all of them but enough.
The 2nd amendment is a deterrent and a check on state power. Maybe not much of one but a great deal better than nothing. We can't give that up.

In light of the German Christmas mall tragedy, we fundamentally transform the “context of car ownership.”
Frank, The cars are next.
Exhaling is…
