Brian, the Government can't be reformed; it can only be abolished. Look at Romania. Ceausescu and his wife were overthrown and killed by the people, and now Romania has another dictator.
Look at the newborn uSA after the Revolution against England. President George Washington led an Army into Western Pennsylvania to put down the Whiskey Rebellion (tax resistance.)
Government is the problem, not the answer.
Humans have to find another way of living in society. Tyranny doesn't work. Theocracies don't work. Republics don't work. Communism and socialism don't work. Fascism doesn't work. Democracy doesn't work.
No government system yet invented by man works for the good of the citizen.
Great article! The State uses force, the police and courts, to enforce all of the taxes, fees, regulations, etc. listed above by Brian. The State has a lot of guns, big guns, courts, judges, and prisons. I remember what the State did to Irwin Schiff, Peter Schiff's father, for writing a book and giving lectures on how the Income Tax is illegal and shouldn't be complied with.
At some point, the people will have nothing to lose by resisting. The French Revolution is an example of this. The people were starving.
When that happens, the State will have to use its guns and police, army, and armed bureaucrats. Why do you think the State has been arming its bureaucrats, including the IRS agents?
The State is like any other animal, and it wants to survive at any cost.
Is there a peaceful way out of this mess, out of our oppression, back to liberty?
Trump is perhaps a mollifier for us. Something to keep us hopeful for a little longer.
Brian, Well, maybe the State dies of a disease that only affects bureaucrats and politicians. Perhaps some clever rebel has put a pathogen in the building materials of government buildings.
Or maybe Men from Mars, who have been studying us for decades, use a death ray that only affects bureaucrats and politicians.
Or maybe the government goes broke, and the politicians' and bureaucrats' paychecks stop, so it all fades away like the Orcs and Cave Trolls running away after the Tower of Sauron falls into dust.
Wow, finally someone, (BWW) hits the Bullseye!!

Self-government works for me, a pragmatic anarchist - as soon as 'government' disappears, everything will be fine. Maybe a Galt's Gulch, pop. 1...

The first answers the question...
