More and more, I think the US Constitution was a mistake. The individual states should have stuck with the Articles of Confederation.

Brian, I'm currently reading "The Demon of Unrest" by Erik Larson. The book is about the leadup to the bombing of Ft. Sumter in Charleston, SC harbor. What a bunch of pigheaded people on both sides all worried about their "honor" and the peculiar institution of slavery.

The Founders in their curtained and secret second floor room in Philadelphia didn't address slavery in the US Constitution. I guess it was left up to the states. But then came in new states and the troubles began.

The US Constitution created the Federal Government and it's ability to tax. Huge mistake. People like power over others. The South liked lording it over the slaves, but they also lived in constant fear of a slave rebellion.

The Northern Yankees wanted to lord it over everybody on Earth, still do.
