Nice to have a friendly, cooperative B-Tender! May be better than a similarly disposed girlfriend...OTOH, being able to navigate after 18 V&T's is wonder in itself!
Good article. I lost faith in the State and its bureaucrats decades ago. I don't vote and watch politics purely for entertainment. My life gets worse every day no matter which idiot is elected. And the courts are a bad joke! As soon as a person enters a courthouse, that person has lost.
Ho Chi Minh fought the Japanese in WWII in Vietnam. Ho Chi Minh admired the US Constitution and liberty. After the Japanese surrendered, President Truman stabbed Ho Chi Minh in the back by facilitating the French retaking their Indochina colony. Truman was an idiot!
Ho Chi Minh than fought the French and beat them at Dien Bien Phu. In came the Americans and Ho Chi Minh abandoned liberty, became a communist, and fought the Americans.
Truman's decision to facilitate (he even gave the French US troops, troop transports, and equipment) the French re-colonization of Indochina was stupid. I'm sure it was DeGaulle's idea but Truman could have said, "NO!"
Brian, I wrote this story from Belem last night. Hope it gives you a laugh. I miss 1990, even in the Amazon:

BW: I was at the Tiki Hut Bar all afternoon, four hours, plus the Amazon heat and humidity sweat out the booze pretty fast.
As for the bartender, I treated the staff well and even had a barmaid as a girlfriend (hence the change in hotels when I found a different one.)
