BIFF! BOP! POW! Brian and Jim take "Journalism" and "Journalists" to new highs and lows, scope out the latest Julian Assange travesty and how Jim navigated "education" vs. "learning". A zesty yap fest
How can you have a free press if there are gatekeepers to "journalism?" Ben Franklin apprenticed in a printer's office and published a newspaper, yet he hired all types of reporters without any credentials other than they were honest and could read and write. The reason most people distrust the mainstream press now is because of the gatekeeping that does happen. The college journalism and ethics classes seem to teach "journalists" that officially sanctioned dishonesty is more ethical than honesty that goes against official narrative.
I read recently someone assessed J Schools as mere indoctrination centers for Socialism. That may be too limited.
I would suggest "gatekeeping" start on a personal level. Even then, editors, news directors and other meddlesome types can flex their titles and muddy the waters big time. An embargoed story is no story to the public. Not reported = never happened. By comparing outlets, one can find that almost daily.
Libertarians like myself don't believe in licenses, permits, or degrees. The free market will take care of the poseurs. The quack doctors, shitty mechanics, and sloppy journalists will not survive in a free market.
Most people side with Libertarian principles - if they take the time to know them. But the possibility of a Libertarian president and/or dominated Congress is right up there with Hell and snowballs. Ditto the "free market". Great ideals and ideas with no chance of coming into existence - at least in our lifetime. The kudzu effect of regulatory red tape, organized labor and pork-addicted bureaucrats run out the clock, choke off the money and kill the most robust - motivation. While the idolized Free Market would no doubt rub out the sleaze balls you mention, the damage they are all inflicting will continue ad infinitum while the kudzu grows. Unless/until "you know", that's where we're at TFN.
BW: Hey, it's National Burrito Day! My friend P in Los Angeles sent me this story today from his days working at the Times Mirror in LA:
Hi T,
In the early days of working at the LA Times Boyle Heights. My fellow workers thought it would be funny to bring the new white boy to Manuel's infamous burrito restaurant. Made famous by all the football players and eventually cops need for big portions.
Rico V, who eventually I became co- supervisor of the art department, told me if I could finish the famous 9 pound Manuel Burrito. I would be accepted by the Mexicans and no longer had to watch my back in Boyle Heights.
He left out the words nine pounds . . .
When we got there with a gang of about ten co-workers all chanting "Eat It, Eat it". Richard pulled a trick and ordered the pan version an 18 pound feast. When I saw the giant mass of beans rice carne asada chilies and such, I said "I've never seen a burrito in a catering tray. I was suspicious that I was being pranked but went along with the flow, as I needed to gain the Mexican gang's acceptance.
When we got back to the art department, I had already drilled through a good quarter of the massive burrito eating it in the back of Rico's van. We had smoked some herb before leaving for the restaurant and I had worked up some sort of munchies. We stayed in the van with the gang now chanting "Leave some for us"
The combined effect of a full stomach and Rico's herb, I passed out right in the van.
Is Rona McDaniels a Negro? There was a time when an institution's response to a Negro coming on the team meant that everyone was now tainted. So are Republican conservatives now the New Negroes of society?

Thanks.

"The news gets out but no one is embarrassed."
Yeah, that's Healdsburg and the "Healdsburg Spittoon" newspaper to a "T".

Look at MSM. What are their ratings?

No words!
BW: My friend said that the plumbing at the Times/Mirror never fully recovered.
BW: In a Libertarian society there wouldn't be a president or a Congress. Hahaha.
I only saw kudzu once. That was in Atlanta. It was like an alien plant from outer space.
There's always the Atlas Shrugged "Who is John Galt?" solution.
David Muir has a journalism degree? Did he sleep with the teachers?
