"Unfortunate" is the word I HATE the most when it is used by pundits and politicians. e.g. "It is unfortunate that so many kids are behind in their educations due to the lockdowns."
"It is unfortunate that green energy costs more than fossil fuels."
"It was unfortunate that the homeowner shot the intruder and is now in jail."
"It's unfortunate that eggs cost a buck an egg."
"It's unfortunate that insurance companies are leaving California (along with taxpayers and the middle class)."
"It's unfortunate that your tumor is inoperable."
