What If Land is the Ultimate Destination! It’s where anything possible, probable, or just hypothetical becomes certain.
Never heard of What If Land? Maybe you know it by one of its other names…
If Only Land – similar to What If Land, just further south.
Never-Never Land – where you never grow old. (Peter Pan)
Heaven – “the place where dreams come true” (“Field of Dreams”)
I first discovered What If Land doing Talk radio. Callers would say things like
“What if we just had a law that…”
“What if the mayor would just drop dead…”
“What If we just got rid of the IRS, then…”
Recently, one of my favorite subscribers wrote “End the Fed and the Income Tax and all this Deep State crap goes away.”
For Harry Potter fans, this is like gazing into the Mirror of Erised “the deepest, most desperate desire of our hearts.”
Not that there’s anything wrong with that, other than extended viewing is said to be destructive; one becomes mesmerized, lost in the fantasy, divorced from reality.
Men have wasted away before it, not knowing if what they have seen is real, or even possible."
— Albus Dumbledore
It is an analogy of the ultimate distraction.
Certainly eliminating the Fed and the IRS would be a great benefit to everyone – except those generously benefitting from the power and grift emanating from both. While we’re at it, making other barnacles like the Depts. of Education, Energy, HHS, Commerce, Labor, State, Transportation, HUD, VA, Homeland Security, Agriculture, Interior, Defense, and Treasury extinct – am I leaving any out? - would be a boon to Freedom, Liberty, and family budgets everywhere!
Whether it’s “shrinking the size of government” or “draining the swamp” of realizing the wisdom of Thoreau “the government that governs best governs least.” how could any Freedom-loving individual not love the vision?
Pragmatism. This is the fatal danger lurking in What If Land and those similarly organized fantasies.
While simple, pleasant, and even exciting, saying or wishing so becomes the self-satisfying delusion that immobilizes rather than inspires action. Stating the What If is sufficient; Words speak louder than Actions. The concept becomes an intellectual Novocain, a sedative that eliminates the pain of change and inconvenience, which unjustly justifies inaction. Simply articulating the fantasy is sufficient.
But it isn’t.
In Never-Never Land, no one grows old. Without maturity, nothing gets done; indulgence is the order of the day.
Heaven may be “where dreams come true” but there is that one inconvenient requirement to entry.
Fortunately, What If Land is also where some of the best ideas and plans are born, mature, meet, and often produce positive action!
On your next visit, check out other like-minded What-If-ers. Start a conversation. It’s amazing what having similar goals can accomplish in the real world.

That's the key! Blind acceptance of the status quo is a problem in and of itself. Make the effort to criticize the world you perceive.
