China needs Taiwan just the way it is. Lots of trade between China and Taiwan. The Chinese are interested in money, not land. It's a new world out there. America needs to wake up to it.
PS: Aircraft carriers are sitting ducks against the weapons of China and/or Russia.
China would like the status quo to continue but they might make a move if they think it's threatened. I think Trump is actually less likely to threaten to green-light independence, but who knows what China thinks. We keep sending Taiwan weapons and idiot politicians go over there and run their mouths so much that they could make a move. I wouldn't put the odds high but it's not impossible that they will conclude that it's now or never and that the status quo is going to be destroyed one way or another. You are right though, China likes it just the way it is.
You are also right about the aircraft carriers, they are good for picking on small nations but they won't be able to park them off shore of China if a war hits. They developed a missile called the sunsplash a couple decades ago that will take out a carrier easily. Russia's newest missiles will for sure take one out too.
